As we storm headstrong into the New Year it is a time to pause and reflect on the past and plan for the future. As I look back on 2015, I can honestly say it was one of the greatest years of growth in my life. I hung up my spurs and married the love of my life Brittany. Early in the year I lost my mamaw, who along with my papaw, were the biggest influences in my outdoor lifestyle. My parents both worked full-time jobs while I was growing up, so I had a lot of grandparent time on my hands. I loved every second of it. They took me hunting or fishing every time they had the chance and for that I am forever grateful. I also experienced some really cool things in 2015. Under Armour always has a big event surrounding the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore and this year the invitation came my way. Honestly I was both excited and nervous at the same time. I was excited because I had never been to a horse race before and I was nervous because I was certain I wouldn’t fit in. Long story short, I had the time of my life with my wife and friends from Under Armour.
2016 has already started with a bang as far as ducks go. I have successfully shot a limit each day of 2016 up to this point, and I hope the streak continues. I really want it to continue mostly because teal have finally showed up in our area and they are by far my favorite duck to hunt. Their level of commitment is unlike any other. They are a sporting target - and most importantly - fantastic table fare. I eat teal within 24 hours of harvesting them. I can’t stand the thought of freezing those delicious nuggets.
I look at 2016 with the hope of growing even more than I did in 2015. I want to grow spiritually more than I did in 2015. I want to continue to grow into the spiritual leader of my household as the Bible instructs me to do. I want to become an even stronger Christian than I am now strengthening my relationship with my God and my wife. I hope each and every one of you that reads this will help hold me accountable in my pursuit of this goal. I pray strength and blessings to each of you out there in 2016.
