"But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith."

- Philippians 3:7-9

We will never appreciate the suffering of our Lord until we experience a small measure of it ourselves. Suffering happens. When it does, our task is to be like Paul here in these verses. Paul teaches us that everything but Christ is rubbish—rubbish! Learn from your difficulties—grow from them—move on!

Father, help us through our momentary sufferings. Help us to not whine or blame You when they come. Teach us, Father, not to run from suffering but to relish it and to man up in the face of it! Give us the power to stand up under it. Amen.
