But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have. But do this in gentleness and respect.
- I Peter 3:15
People who know me know that I love to talk -- and this verse gives me guidance on how to use my gift of gab. Peter says that if I truly revere the Lord, I must be ready at all times to tell others why. I have to admit that I don't always wait for someone to ask me about my hope -- I usually just start telling them about Jesus. But this verse also reminds me of what my attitude should be when I share the good news -- I am to be respectful and use gentle care. The worst witness I could give is one of harshness, smugness, or self-righteousness.
Father, I pray today for an opportunity to tell someone about the hope that you have instilled in my heart. I pray for the right attitude, the right tone, and the right heart as I have the privilege of pointing people to your love and salvation. I am so grateful for the hope that I have and look forward to spending eternity with You! I praise you for Your Son and the Holy Spirit. It is through Jesus I pray, Amen.
